As the birthplace of swimwear of China, the industry emerged in 1980s. In1986, gymnastic tights started sweeping across the country. A saying “No matter how big your belly is, you’ve got to wear gymnastic tights” fitly highlighted the popularity of the product. The swimwear industry of Jinjiang experienced rounds of revolutions: from gymnastic tights to gym wear , from gym wear to swimwear, and to the diversified but stretch-fabric-based products, including gym wear, cycling wear, yoga wear and etc.
In 1999, a move to link garment industry with cities was initiated. The industry set forth a strategic goal to drive the industry forward---to develop a number of renowned fashion cities in China, thus connecting China’s urbanization with garment industry and competition among industry players evolved to competition among cities. Shortly, garment industries with regional characteristics emerged. Swimwear industry is an important part of garment industry, it has four major manufacturing bases in China: Xingcheng in Huludao City, Yiwu of Zhejiang province ,Jinjiang city of Fujian, and several cities of Guangdong. Today, the “Jinjiang swimwear corps” is pushing urbanization forward with its geographical advantages and brand recognition.

Yinglin Town of Jinjiang is a well-known garment town, hosting a number of swimwear industrial clusters. Its upper stream industries have the capacity of dyeing and weaving, warp knitting, and producing spandex and polyamides. The town also possesses highly skilled ability to produce raw materials and accessories for swimwear with complete set of industrial chains and sound facilities. These advantages enable companies to shorten production cycle and quickly respond to the market. As a swimwear manufacturing base with the longest history, Jinjiang swimwear industry enjoys highly-skilled labor-force. Our long-standing partnership with European and American customers and factories ensures the high-quality of Jinjiang-made swimwear.
We are set to invest over RMB10 billion to launch a 67 hectares swimwear industrial park, which will serve as the platform for industrial structural adjustment, creating level playing field, and building industrial chains. It will also function as the center for R&D, logistics and commerce, product inspection, capital operation, personnel training and cultural displaying.
The Jinjiang swimwear industry enjoys the following advantages: First, a complete set of industrial chains. We are proud that we have such complete industrial chains and facilities. Companies like Jingfeng Textile, Hansen Group，KBTEX and Kashiwen are major raw material providers.
Second, Jinjiang swimwear has large market share. As an early starter, Jinjiang swimwear has become an influential market player with big market share. Through partnership with international famous brands such as ROXY、ARENA、SPEEDO、SEAFOLLY、PRIMARK、ZARA、QUICK SILVER., companies including Qicaihu, Jinglang, Dunhuang, Libixing, Daxing, Hongxing are offering ODM and supply chain management services, thus taking up over 90% over the international market. After several rounds of facilities upgrading, most Jinjiang swimwear producers employ facilities imported from Japan and Germany, including PEGASUS, Karl Mayer, JUKI and Ymantao. Faced with intensified competition and rising costs, Jinjiang swimwear producers have set off to replace labors with machines and AI technology. Companies have introduced the most advanced intelligent precise weaving equipment in the world to improve production efficiency and reduce labor costs.
Fourth, Jinjiang swimwear has remarkable advantages in industrial clusters. Jinjiang is the famous textile and garment production base in China, registering an output value of 100 billion yuan in 2015. The economic downward pressure in recent years has impacted all business sectors to some extent. But the rising demand of swimwear underscores the huge potential for its market.
Statistics from NPD, a market research institute, show a staggering US$4.4 billion sale of swimwear in U.S., up by 6 percent over the previous year. Given a population of 300 million in U.S., one can imagine how big the market is in China, a country with over 4 times the population of that of America. But the sales in China are only a fraction of those of U.S. It seems swimwear is a niche product in China, it’s still in its early stage compared with that of America and Europe. But experts always say: “That means huge market potential.”
As people’s living standards increase and more people engage in recreational sports, there has been an exponential growth of swimwear industry. The mass fitness campaign and recreational sports are gaining popularity in China, and young people nowadays tend to spend more on leisure activities, thus accelerating the development of tourism and hot spring tourism. It is anticipated that China’s swimwear consumption will maintain steady high growth in the coming 10 years, representing one of the highest grown sector in China’s garment industry.
“The World’s Smart Swimwear Base”. One piece of swimwear may be of small weight, but when hundreds of millions swimwear pile together, they would weigh much. Despite their small sizes, swimwear holds big promising market. With polyurethane industry, machinery manufacturing, tourism, modern service industries and the supporting industries of swimwear production, swimwear industry is well positioned to play a major role in economic restructuring and transforming growth pattern with its hundreds of billions output value and tens of thousands jobs.
We will make cultural creativity and city marketing as the main direction of this year’s Expo, incorporating “cultural diversity” and “technological innovation” as well as branding, designing, developing, and marketing of high-end swimwear products.
Goals of our Association:
Under China’s economic “New Normal”, the people of Jinjiang, with their pioneering and entrepreneurial spirits, decided to set up Jinjiang Swimwear Industry Association to seize early business opportunities and stay ahead of competition.
